In today's competitive
climate many social, amateur and professional golfers are seeking advice and
guidance from a variety of professionals in an attempt to
improve their golf swing.
The first port of call is most commonly the teaching professional who assists
with technical deficiencies. However, many
golfers also have physical
limitations, which
prevent them from realizing their full potential. |
Golf medicine works in close conjunction
with the teaching professional and the golfer in addressing these limitations. A
golf specific musculoskeletal screening
process
that Golf Medicine has developed and refined enables us to determine these
physical limitations. We then develop individualised golf specific exercise programs aimed at
correcting these limitations.

A close working relationship with the teaching professional is essential in
assisting with the compliance of the program and allowing for ongoing feedback. |

Individualised golf specific exercise
programs can utilise devices such as the gym ball. The physical goals of a
program need to be integrated with the golfers technical goals. |

Our strong research focus enables us to keep
up to date with the latest golf specific evidence. This ensures more effective
assessment and management of the golfer. |

Golf medicine also has an important role
in the injury prevention and management of the golfer. This is evidenced
by the fact research has shown that over 50% of all golfers will suffer an
injury at some stage. The physically demanding nature of the golf swing also
provides further support. The golf swing has been shown to place more then
eight times the recommended guidelines for safe lifting weight, through the
golfers spine during each swing. |

The golf swing
requires very specific movements of the
body. These specific movements of the swing are largely dictated by your
physical capabilities i.e. flexibility, strength, control and endurance. Golf
medicine is able to assess these aspects of a golfers fitness in order to
identify any potential injury areas.

We then recommend
preventative
and or
rehabilitative programs
to address the specific needs of each golfer. Golf medicine is dedicated to
providing a
holistic approach
to the aspiring golfer! |
